Trench warfare effected the soldiers in a lot of ways. To start, they were living in the trenches while they were fighting. But they were not the only living things in the trenches at this time. Lice and rats lived amongst them too. The soldiers tried to kill the rats but they were fighting an already lost battle. The rats were breeding faster than they could kill them. (It is said the rats would go on to eat the dead bodies and become as big as cats...how cool/gross is that?) Furthermore, there was disease all throughout the trenches. The diseases would spread very fast too. An example of a disease within the trenches would be Trench Fever. Trench Fever is caused by lice. It has severe pain and fever. Common ways the diseases were passed from person to person were through the bathrooms and dead bodies. Next, the governments were effected financially. Everyday the countries that were participating in WWI were buying new weapons, medicine, and food for their soldiers. The countries that lost later on would also have to pay for the damaged land. Finally, the civilians were effected when the trenches were built. They were made to move because the trenches were built where their homes were at. Another way the civilians/families were effected were they were torn apart by the deaths of the soldiers. Many sons and fathers were lost during battle.

Civilians not only lost homes and family, the also lost supplies such as food and medicine. So, they were indirectly hit by the war. Shocked
