World War one trench warfare although not anything new in the wars of the Americas but to the Europeans this was a whole new concept. The countries of the Triple Alliance and their enemy the countries of the Triple Entente both have very strong armies. Due to this fact, trenches were dug to protect each soldier’s countries from gunfire. Life in the trenches was brutal for the soldiers this was because they were faced with many fears of disease, lack of food, and even death. With these risks the soldiers lived with little hope coming out of the war unscathed. For the civilian or nearby cities the trenches were just as real a danger to them as to the soldiers in them. This was because the trenches stretched on for miles, if a normal civilian were to come upon one of these trenches they could fall into it and suffer the same unyielding death of disease as the soldiers in them could. As for the government of the countries in the war, the trenches came at the expense of millions of dollars. This massive cost was due to the construction of these trenches some spanning for many miles before finally coming to a dead end. Many of these trenches suffered many blows from both explosives and gunfire therefore they had to be very deep and strong which cost millions for every country involved. With all of the risks involved in the war the result was a colossal death toll of over eight million military casualties.

Oh yeah
Good point about America using trench warfare before
I forgot that they used it in the civil war
I wonder if it was any different
besides the obvious technological advancements in weapons there had been in that time.

?
I don' know, I imagine it was less brutal due to the fact that there were not so many parties involved in the war to begin with.

In the quote "Due to this fact, trenches were dug to protect each soldier’s countries from gunfire. Life in the trenches was brutal for the soldiers this was because they were faced with many fears of disease, lack of food, and even death." wouldn't disease and lack of food causedeath?
